As the total number of Teslas sold continues to expand, Oklahoma, as a transit highway system state, will continue to have more and more Teslas using our superchargers. Weekends have become especially busy. To assist with all through traffic charging, including our fellow Oklahomans, we can all try and be timely with our charging. If you are using the supercharger for general charging, as opposed to charging where you live because you don't have access to charging), try not to do that on weekends. This will allow through traffic more timely access to charging.
Tesla, is doing continuous charging analysis, and is aware of all delays associated with limited supercharging capacity. They will make the business decisions to install more charging as they feel needed. We've already seen free supercharging on some days to off load charging on other days. That indicates that they still feel there is unused capacity, and if we all help space out the usage and make it appear generally over capacity, that should help reveal that more supercharging would be beneficial.
I know that a lot of us are looking for more convenient charging. OKC would benefit from supercharging being available on the east side of town on the I-35 corridor and Tulsa would benefit from supercharging on the west side of town on the I-75 corridor.
If the superchargers are all in use when you arrive, look for a line that may already be formed from others already waiting to charge. You can look at the supercharger location on the car navigation system to see if there is a "wait". You should use the navigation system to get to the supercharger because that causes the car to condition the batteries for fastest charging. If you tap on the location of the super charger, you will be able to see what is happening. Terms like "short wait", "medium wait" or "long wait" will be visible on the popup pane. There will also be indications of which stalls may be not working, so you will know not to pull into one of those and potentially lose you place in line.
The number of available stalls is also displayed so that you can plan ahead to know if you will be waiting. When we go to the supercharger in OKC before returning to Tulsa on our weekend outings to see family, we use the charging status to know whether we should stop and get food before we get to the charger so that we can eat while we wait in line, or if we can pull in and start charging and then go get a bite to eat while the car charges. Remember that once your car finishes charging, you may start getting billed for idle time as well, which can become expensive at $1.00 a minute or more.
Hope everyone has a fun packed summer and can stay cool!
Norman is totally deplete of any useable chargers of any kind! Sorely in need of Tesla Superchargers.
There is a "destination charger" at a small bed & breakfast which is for customers only -- this is a real joke. Why would Tesla give them a destination charger that hardly anyone can use???
Great to see new chargers coming to West Tulsa. I'm proud to have been involved in bringing them to Catoosa and the Hard Rock.
