EVs Expected to Be 31% of Global Fleet by 2050 -
Currently, EVs only constitute 0.7% of all the cars and trucks that weigh less than 8,500 pounds (LDVs), but that share is expected to grow to 31% by 2050. One big reason for this is that the current number of LDVs sits at 1.31 billion vehicles and is expected to grow to 2.21 billion vehicles by 2050 according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). The same report also predicts that EV sales will pass LDV sales in 2038, and these predictions are based on the assumption that there will not be any pro-EV policy changes in the future (there definitely will be).
New Tesla Paint Colors Leaked -
Tesla currently only offers five colors, but a new leak indicates that there are three more coming soon. In the beginning of Model S production, Tesla offered a wider breadth of color options, but in an attempt to streamline production have limited them in the past couple years. This tweet from a Tesla news account shows some of the source code in the latest mobile app update and shows the three new colors coming hopefully soon. The three colors are: Deep Crimson Multicoat (shown above), Abyss Blue Multicoat, and Mercury Silver Metallic. Tesla already has a red, blue, and silver color but these new colors will hopefully have the same depth and clarity as the Signature Red Multicoat that Tesla has been offering for years. The new colors will likely be priced at around $2500 with the possible exception of the silver as it is not a multicoat. The biggest remaining question relates to where these colors will be available, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted that the new paint shop in their Gigafactory Berlin will be very advanced and will be able to produce new colors.
